Speaker
Joanna McClinton
Historic Fundraising; Historic Results
Representative Joanna McClinton has made significant contributions in the political arena as the Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, where she proudly represents the 191st legislative district. In November 2018, she made history by becoming the first African-American and first woman to be elected as the House Democratic Caucus chairman. In 2020, she broke another glass ceiling in the Pennsylvania legislature as the first woman to lead either caucus. And most recently, in 2023, Speaker McClinton became the first woman to be elected Speaker of the Pennsylvania House and the first Black Speaker in over 30 years. Through her leadership, Representative McClinton has been a staunch advocate for criminal justice reform, police accountability, education funding, and affordable healthcare for all Pennsylvanians. Her unwavering dedication to these issues has earned her respect and admiration from her constituents and colleagues alike.
Over several cycles, MFStrategies has had the privilege of working with Speaker McClinton. In 2022 alone, we helped her raise over $1.8 million, more than any previous Democratic Leader in Pennsylvania history. Through her contributions to both the House Democratic Campaign Committee and Democratic candidates, Democrats took the majority in the State House for the first time in over a decade. Speaker McClinton's exceptional fundraising skills and strategic approach helped to ensure that progressive voices were heard and that crucial issues were prioritized during the election. Her success was not only a testament to her dedication and leadership but also to the power of effective fundraising and grassroots organizing in creating positive change.
