Transformational Leadership in Chicago

Alderperson Jessie Fuentes is a groundbreaking politician and community organizer, marking history as the youngest and first woman, as well as the first queer Latina, to lead Chicago's 26th Ward. Her victory in the 2023 elections, securing her a place in City Council, symbolizes a progressive shift in a ward traditionally led by men.

Raised in Humboldt Park, Chicago, Fuentes overcame a tumultuous childhood marked by family drug addiction and violence, transforming her struggles into motivation for change. A passionate advocate for youth, education, and the Puerto Rican community, she has dedicated her life to fostering environments where young individuals can rise above their circumstances. Her experience includes serving as the dean of students at Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos High School and working as the director of policy and youth advocacy for the Puerto Rican Cultural Center. Fuentes’ approach to leadership is distinctly grassroots and inclusive, aiming to bridge communities and ensure representation for all voices in her ward, emphasizing restorative justice practices, anti-gentrification campaigns, and progressive youth programming. With a commitment to community well-being and a rich background in activism, Fuentes represents a beacon of hope and change in Chicago's political landscape.

In late 2022, just 4 months before Election Day, the Fuentes Campaign retained MFStrategies to plan, operationalize, and run the campaign's formal fundraising operations. With our strategic insights and innovative approaches, the campaign quickly raised over $160,000. This empowered the campaign's community-focused strategy which didn’t just secure a win; it achieved a resounding victory, capturing a dominant 55.6% of the votes in a race with multiple opponents. We were honored to be a part of this historic campaign which brought a fresh progressive direction to the 26th Ward.
